Saltley Academy is located in Bordesley Green, Birmingham and falls under the local authority of Birmingham. Originally Saltley School from the 1970's, it was converted to academy status in March 2015 and was renamed Saltley Academy. The school is now part of the Washwood Heath Multi-Academy Trust which includes Brownmead Primary Academy and Washwood Heath Academy.

An £11.8m extension was recently delivered to provide an upgrade of the existing facilities, creating new classrooms and providing an additional 40 places. Space to the rear of the school complex was transformed to house a two-storey standalone building. New multi-use-games-areas were created alongside additional car parking. Refurbishments were carried out within existing buildings and the science laboratories, and technology provision was also refurbished. The school continued to operate as usual during the work.
